Charter and the Big 10 Network's (btn) stalemate has obviously hurt the student body with only sports bars seeming to benefit. All though it was only one football game it will be interesting to see what happens with basketball.
As a "solution" to the problem the university IT department (DOIT) has offered to broadcast the game on the internet, but only to people on wired connections. This gesture is pointless, because most of the people with wired connections live in the dorms or other places with resnet. Resnet cable already offers BTN to its users to watch on TV. Basically, BTN only allowed the university to make the game available to people that already get it in the traditional ways.
I would hope for more effort from the university and BTN. The online broadcast will be just the same as TV, aka still have commercials, and I'm sure could be made available online for "free" if it included more ads around it and lower then tv resolution. This way BTN could still get the viewers and ad revenue it would on Charter. As an added plus BTN could show Charter the number of views the site got as a reason to add the channel to its basic package instead of to its upper tier package (which requires a cable box to view).
I happen to have Direct TV so I get to watch the games in my room. However, most in Madison don't and I can't wait to see State Street Brats and the Union during Basketball games.

Heh. I don't have cable, so I can't watch games period, but I really don't like what Charter's doing in this situation. I remember as a kid my parents got expanded cable so they could catch the two or three Packer games that were on ESPN, because that wasn't included in our basic package... huzzah for paying for 70 channels so that you can use one of them maybe once a month.

Personally, as much as I love the Badgers, I would not want to pay an extra $1.10 a month to have the BTN. I would not watch any of the small sports or the women sports. A note to self: any game on the BTN is NOT a good game, therefore the BTN is showing the game, not ESPN or ABC or another big station. I would feel bad for the cable subscribers who don't care about the Big Ten and who have to pay the extra money for their tier package.
hopefully the Badgers don't freefall and become a regular on the Big Ten Network
